Dr. Adeduntan Installed as New Balogun of Oyo by Alaafin

The historic city of Oyo witnessed a grand celebration on Saturday as His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo, inaugurated Dr. Adesola Adeduntan as the new Balogun of Oyo. The colorful ceremony took place at the Alaafin’s Palace and was attended by a myriad of dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and local indigenes, all coming together to honor this significant tradition.

Dr. Adeduntan, who previously held the esteemed position of Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, steps into the role following the legacy of the late Dr. Victor Olunloyo, who was revered for his contributions as the former Governor of the old Oyo State. During the installation, Oba Owoade emphasized the importance of the Balogun title, describing it as one of the most respected senior offices within the Oyo Empire, traditionally associated with leadership, valor, and the defense of the kingdom.

In his address, the Alaafin urged Dr. Adeduntan to uphold the esteemed values of the Balogun role and to utilize his vast experience for the advancement of peace, unity, and development within Oyo Kingdom. In response, Dr. Adeduntan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Alaafin and the people of Oyo for the honor bestowed upon him. He committed to serving the community with humility, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to the progress of both Oyo and Yorubaland.

Dr. Adeduntan’s extensive background also includes his current role as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University in Ibadan, along with being recognized as the Apesin Ola of Ibadanland. President Bola Tinubu conveyed his congratulations in a message prior to the ceremony, framing the installation as a call to greater service and urging the new Balogun to champion peace and development in the region.
