Funso Doherty, the governorship candidate for Lagos State under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has introduced an ambitious 34-point manifesto designed to elevate the state’s living standards if he secures victory in the upcoming February 2027 elections. The manifesto, titled "Ònà Tuntun" (New Road), was presented in Lagos and outlines specific commitments in crucial areas such as health, education, housing, transportation, and environmental sustainability.

Among the key pledges made by Doherty is the commitment to deliver 150,000 homes within four years, alongside providing free healthcare services for pregnant women and children under the age of 16. He emphasized the importance of education, promising free schooling through secondary level and technical colleges, as well as free textbooks and nutritious meals for students in public schools. "The whole objective is that there should be no child in Lagos State that will not benefit from a quality education because his or her parents cannot afford it or because of the circumstances of his or her birth," Doherty asserted, stressing the long-term implications of educational access on the future of the state.

Doherty has also addressed transportation challenges, vowing to modernize the state's public transport system. He pledged to implement a scheme that allows students in public schools to use public transport for free, ensuring that logistical barriers do not hinder access to education. "If we don’t tackle these issues, it is our future that we are mortgaging," he remarked, underscoring the urgency of his proposals.

Mrs. Tolani Animashaun, who has been named as Doherty's running mate, will play a pivotal role in the campaign, supporting the manifesto's objectives. Doherty's comprehensive approach aims not only to address immediate needs but also to set a foundation for sustained growth and development in Lagos State.
