In a significant development for the Zurmi Emirate Council, Governor Dauda Lawal has officially approved the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Atiku as the new Emir and Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi. This decision was conveyed by Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, who noted that the appointment followed extensive consultations with the Kingmakers of the Zurmi Emirate Council and adhered to the established traditions and laws of the state.

Aminu Atiku, who ascends the throne as the 21st Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, takes over from the late Alhaji Bello Suleiman, who passed away on August 31, 2026. The new emir, who holds the traditional title of Dangaladiman Zurmi, is the eldest son of the 19th Emir of Zurmi, the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. His previous experience as the Sole Administrator of the Zurmi Local Government Council positions him well to lead the community.

Governor Lawal congratulated Atiku and emphasized the importance of upholding the legacy of his predecessors. He called upon the new emir to provide leadership that prioritizes peace, justice, unity, and the welfare of the people. The governor highlighted the historical significance of the Zurmi Emirate, established by the Alibawa clan, and its commitment to scholarship, justice, and public service.

Moreover, Lawal urged Atiku to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among the diverse communities within the emirate and to collaborate closely with government and security agencies to enhance peace and security. The appointment of Aminu Atiku marks a pivotal moment in the history of the Zurmi Emirate, as the community looks forward to a new chapter under his leadership.
