Oluwole Aguda, a prominent businessman and political consultant, has called for patience regarding the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu, which he believes will ultimately yield positive results for Nigerians. In an insightful interview, Aguda discussed the pressing needs for electoral support in the North as the nation looks forward to the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that tangible improvements may take time to manifest.
Aguda's analysis points to the significant hardships faced by citizens due to the removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the naira, which have raised concerns about living conditions across Nigeria. He asserts that a fair evaluation of Tinubu's administration should not only focus on immediate economic challenges but also consider the long-term advantages of the reforms being implemented. “Nigeria’s economy was bleeding, and stopping that haemorrhage was necessary to give the country a chance of recovery,” he stated.
Highlighting the government's efforts, Aguda noted that the National Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (NELFUND) has disbursed over N300 billion to more than 1.5 million students across 319 tertiary institutions as of October 2026. However, he cautioned that these efforts have yet to translate into significant improvements in the daily lives of many Nigerians, which remains one of the administration's biggest challenges. “The cost of food, transportation, and housing continues to rise, which is a concern that needs to be addressed urgently,” he added.
In addition to economic reforms, Aguda touched upon the ongoing political tensions in Imo State, particularly the rivalry between Governor Hope Uzodimma and his predecessor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, regarding the Imo West senatorial ticket. He believes that resolving such political conflicts will be crucial for consolidating support for the Tinubu administration as it heads towards the next election cycle.
