The Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE, valued at approximately $1.5 billion, has been completed with AELEX serving as Solicitors to the Offer. This pivotal transaction is not only the largest single IPO ever undertaken in Africa but is also the first public offering by a Free Zone Entity (FZE) in Nigeria, showcasing the evolving landscape of Nigeria’s financial markets.
In a statement released by AELEX, the firm highlighted the significance of this IPO in enhancing public participation in the refinery project, while simultaneously providing a vital source of capital for industrial development. This offering is seen as a major step forward in Nigeria’s capital market, particularly for large-scale businesses operating under the Free Zone framework.
AELEX has a longstanding relationship with the Dangote Industries Group, having previously acted as solicitors for the N60 billion IPO of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, and advising on various major projects including the $798 million financing for the Obajana Cement Project. The firm’s consistent involvement with Dangote projects underscores their expertise and commitment to facilitating large-scale industrial endeavors in Nigeria.
The successful completion of this IPO not only reinforces AELEX's reputation in the legal sector but also demonstrates the capabilities of Nigeria’s capital market to support significant industrial projects. According to AELEX, the offering opens new avenues for investment and growth within the nation’s economic framework, paving the way for future initiatives in the Free Zone sector.
