Adebayo Calls for Tinubu to Step Aside, Critiques Leadership Approach Ahead of 2027 Elections
In a bold statement, Social Democratic Party presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo has urged President Bola Tinubu to relinquish his position, arguing that his fatigue indicates a lack of capability to govern effectively. Adebayo's remarks come in response to Tinubu's decision to limit his campaign activities, raising concerns about hands-on leadership in Nigeria's current climate.

As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 presidential elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) candidate, has issued a striking call for President Bola Tinubu to step down. This appeal was made during a statement in Abuja, where Adebayo characterized Tinubu as being 'too tired' to fulfill his campaign duties, and consequently, 'too weak' to govern the nation effectively.
Adebayo's comments were sparked by Tinubu’s announcement at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where the President stated his intention to delegate campaigning responsibilities to party members while focusing on governance matters. In a statement released by his Chief Communications Adviser, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the SDP candidate argued that Nigeria requires a leader who is actively engaged and present, especially during challenging times.
“Nigeria is too complex, too dynamic, and currently too distressed to be governed by remote control,”
Adebayo emphasized. He criticized what he termed the President's pattern of governing from a distance, highlighting Tinubu’s significant absences during national crises and prolonged medical vacations that have raised eyebrows.
The SDP candidate’s remarks resonate with growing public concern regarding the effectiveness of leadership in Nigeria, particularly as citizens face pressing economic and social issues. Adebayo's assertion that Tinubu’s absence undermines public confidence reflects a broader sentiment among Nigerians who seek decisive and active governance.
As the political landscape evolves in the run-up to the elections, Adebayo’s stance may influence voter sentiment and reshape the discourse on leadership accountability and presence in Nigeria.
