ADC Raises Concerns Over NAF Aircraft Maintenance Funding Following Ondo Crash
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called into question the adequacy of funding for the maintenance of Nigerian Air Force aircraft in light of a recent fatal crash in Ondo State. The party's statement highlights significant discrepancies in budget allocations between military and presidential aircraft maintenance.

In the wake of the tragic crash of an ATR-42 aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised urgent concerns regarding the funding allocated for the maintenance of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft. The opposition party argues that this incident should not only prompt a thorough investigation into the immediate causes of the crash but also necessitate a critical examination of how much of the budgeted funds for military aircraft maintenance are actually being released and effectively utilized.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims while emphasizing the need for transparency in defense budgeting. The party pointed out that, as of December 2025, only N4.5 billion—approximately 13.98% of the N34.71 billion earmarked for the maintenance of NAF aircraft—had been disbursed, contrasting sharply with the N20.74 billion allocated for the maintenance of the Presidential Air Fleet, of which N20.27 billion (97.76%) had been released.
“Put simply, while the fleet that serves a handful of people in power got almost every kobo it asked for, the fleet that serves and protects 200 million Nigerians was left with crumbs,” the ADC lamented. This stark disparity raises critical questions about prioritization within military funding and the implications for national security and operational readiness of the armed forces.
While the ADC acknowledges the ongoing investigations into the crash, the party insists that the incident serves as a vital reminder of the importance of adequate funding and maintenance of military assets. The ADC's call for scrutiny is reflective of broader concerns regarding accountability in the defense sector, particularly in a time when the nation's security challenges are paramount.
