In a recent interview on Arise Television, Chille Igbawua, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed strong support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who remains resolute in his candidacy for the 2027 presidential race. Igbawua dismissed the notion that Atiku's age and health should disqualify him, arguing that the former vice president possesses the necessary mental agility and sagacity that transcends mere numbers.
“I do not know where he has data on Atiku’s health. Atiku has not changed his age, but whether at that age he cannot govern is a totally different thing,” Igbawua stated, insisting that many younger individuals lack the capability that Atiku demonstrates. He emphasized that age alone does not determine one’s fitness for leadership, highlighting that true capability comes from mental and physical readiness.
Furthermore, Igbawua condemned the idea that Atiku should step aside for a younger candidate, calling it an insult to the former vice president. “To suggest that Atiku should step down so that if they win they will take care of him, how? That is an insult. Take care of him in what way?” he queried, criticizing such suggestions as irresponsible and harmful to opposition unity.
