ADC Accuses YSIEC of Exclusion Ahead of Yobe Local Government Elections

In a significant development ahead of the 2026 local government elections, the Yobe State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) of failing to provide crucial electoral information. The party expressed its discontent in a letter directed to the Chairman of YSIEC, highlighting their concerns regarding the lack of communication pertaining to election guidelines, timetables, and other pertinent electoral decisions that directly impact their participation.

The ADC asserted that equal access to electoral information is vital for the lawful engagement of all political parties in the electoral process. They have demanded clear evidence from YSIEC regarding when and how these guidelines were communicated to them. The party's letter outlined that the absence of this critical information could severely hinder their ability to participate fully in the upcoming council elections.

The ADC stated, “We therefore request clear evidence of when, how and through what official channel the relevant Guidelines, timetable and electoral decisions were communicated to ADC,” emphasizing the importance of transparency in the electoral process.

Furthermore, the ADC referenced Sections 7, 40, and 197 of the amended 1999 Constitution, along with various electoral laws and YSIEC regulations, to underscore their claims. They indicated that if their concerns are not adequately addressed, they would not hesitate to explore legal redress and organize peaceful protests as a means of asserting their rights.

This situation raises important questions about electoral transparency in Nigeria and the mechanisms in place to ensure that all parties are adequately informed and able to participate in the democratic process.
